Transcript Information

Any student whose University financial account is clear may obtain a copy of his or her academic record at Indiana University, or request a copy be sent to a third party, by completing a Transcript Request Form or providing other signed consent. A transcript may be requested in person, by mail, by fax, or online (see below for details).

What is an Official Transcript?

A transcript is a comprehensive record of a student's academic performance as recorded by the faculty including courses transferred, special credit, credit by exam, and degrees awarded.

Official transcripts are printed on security paper with the Indiana University seal and signature of the Registrar.

The transcript is formatted to list your entire IU course history, grades, and GPA information in chronological order, sorted by the career level.

Transcript Elements

The transcript contains the following information:

If a student attended Indiana University for both undergraduate and graduate work, all courses will appear on the single record. Separate grade point averages will be maintained for work taken as an undergraduate student and as a graduate student. Note that this may result in undergraduate courses being included in a graduate GPA if the student took the courses while enrolled as a graduate student (and vice-versa).

Students may request a transcript of only those courses taken at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional (Law, Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry) career level. In these cases, the title of the document will reflect which careers are included.

Additional Transcript Services

Signed and Sealed Envelopes

All transcripts we produce are official and bear the Registrar's signature and the University seal.

For an extra level of security when official transcripts are mailed by the student, some agencies/institutions may require that each transcript be placed in separate envelopes and sealed with the Registrar's signature and the University seal affixed to the back of the envelope. If you need this additional service, just let us know.

Federal Express

If your transcript must reach its destination quickly and the fax service is not an option, a rush delivery via Federal Express, which is the only express delivery service available, can be requested.

Transcripts can be delivered by Federal Express using either "Overnight" or "Next Day" delivery. Charges are based on location and type of service, and be aware Federal Express cannot deliver to a P.O. Box. You should contact Federal Express to determine the correct rate before sending your request and Federal Express payment. For domestic mailing, their toll-free number is (800)GO-FEDEX or (800)463-3339. For international mailing, call (800)247-4747. You can also visit their web site at www.fedex.com.

You may pay by submitting your Federal Express account number, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express card number and expiration date, or by check(s). If paying by check, include one check to Indiana University for the transcript charges and a separate check to Federal Express for their delivery fee.
